Lighting Performance

The lighting performance was developed from the beginning of the year, counting with several revisions due to considerations within the performative space.

Because we are talking of Live Electronic Sound and consequently Live Electronic Dance Music, the lighting show looks to emphasise the danceable character of the music performed, also it generates an extension of the performance space, with the momentary performance of light layers building towards the inclusion of this dimensional triggers into the performance space in a globalized way.

The different approaches that we can see throughout the series of performances developed within the context of this module, are approaches taken by external unexperienced light performers, which were briefed of the performative options preset on the lighting station desk, as also of the overall vision of the final product. These were performed by Catia Leite (performance 1); Ashkan Nazari (performance 2); Jose Pedro (performance 3). The final performance lighting is then re-programmed to avoid issues with the video projections, tested and rehearsed. Pawel Spica is the responsible for the excellent lighting effects that can be see on the Final Performance, which follow my overall vision on Pawel's own interpretation.

These light shows were adapted to the video projection, which revealed to be an important performance interaction with the audience and the music. The video was then put together and sped up in accordance to a semi-defined progression of the overall set, which is found to comply with the vision and the expected effect on the audience, creating a 'more lively' feel to the whole performance and performance space.

Is important to refer here that the light plotting started to be developed in the previous year with its completion being thought after taking on a 1st semester light design course, which allowed more expertise on the plotting approach and the consequent enhancement of confidence to plan and program a light show. Fruit of this, comes invitations to perform lights in research events from Yumi Cawkwell and Guy Harries, featuring David Toop and Chris Cutler. Subsequently developed a 'hands-on-approach' basis to program and design shows generating edits and alternative strategies, implementing solutions within a 'live' performance.

As a light performer, I took the initiative of performing lights for 'The Paris Grove' final live performance. Here with a preset plotted by Karina Townsend, the most of the performance was obtained by synchronization with the progression of the tracks, once I am the band's Studio Engineer.
